\n\t Studies in Psychology provide students with learning experiences and information about the presumptions and methodologies of historical and modern psychological theories as they are presented academically and as they influence the culture. They will better understand the physiology, theories and underlying assumptions in basic psychological studies and conclusions, and develop skills for dealing with them effectively, in an encouraging environment. Students will gain the knowledge, confidence and practical skills to interact with psychological presumptions and make decisions which are wise, honor God, and are beneficial for themselves and their culture. Logic and critical thinking skills will be developed, as well as listening skills, writing skills, research skills, and discernment.\n

\n\t Considerable experiential learning activities and analysis help students develop a real understanding of each psychological perspective and its effect on personal interactions and cultural decisions. Students will practice drawing psychological conclusions from various perspectives and schools of thought. They will develop proficiency in thorough and critical observation, analysis and decision making. Students will also be encouraged to develop a deep understanding and Biblical insight into psychological issues.\n

\n\t Reading and discussion provide instruction in the history and development of principal theories. Students will also be given opportunities to create their own psychological analyses and experience others. Students may be inspired to learn more about cognitive or language development, personality or perceptual theories, learning technologies, memory, circadian and other rhythms, genograms, religious and cultural influences on psychological theories, the relationship between physiology and psychology, influences of psychological assumptions on cultural “norms”, Biblical Counseling or other tangentially related issues.\n

","short_description":"Introduction to Psychology presents students with a clear understanding of basic psychological studies and encourages them to think Biblically about the concepts and underlying assumptions in each school of thought. This class will help them develop or improve skills in responding to various psychological theories, their underlying assumptions and their consequences both in college classes and the real world. A clear history of the development of psychological thought will be incorporated into discussion and applied to analysis of current ideas. \n\nThis course fulfills High School requirements for Psychology, Biblical studies, or other electives. Honors students will complete additional activities for all areas of study.
