Most self-made\nmillionaires in America are entrepreneurs, business executives or self-employed\nprofessionals. By becoming knowledgeable, proficient, and skilled in the\noperations of a successful business, students dramatically increase the\nprobability that they will be able to support the cost of any goals they may\nhave (college, marriage, family, wealth, or ministry). They can begin to practice the skills which\ncan develop an income, support financial independence or create a sustainable\nministry in the years ahead. All business skills and behaviors are learnable\nthrough study and practice, and the most successful businesspeople in every\narea practice important habits. Our work in this class is to adapt these habits\nto the current situations of the students, so that they can adopt these habits\nand then apply them in all their business activities.

Entrepreneurship will weave theory\nand practice through the concepts and wisdom of business creation, development,\nand sustainability, beginning with:

1. Understand the purpose of a\nbusiness. According to\nPeter Drucker, \"The purpose of a business is to create and keep a\ncustomer.\" All profits are a result of creating and keeping a sufficient\nnumber of customers and serving them in a profitable manner. We will discuss,\nexperiment, and practice the art of serving the customer.

2. Achieve the power of\nclarity. Perhaps the most\nimportant word in business and personal success is the word\n\"clarity.\" You must be absolutely clear about who you are as a person\nand what you're trying to do or accomplish in your business or work. You must\ndevelop the habit of thinking carefully about every detail of your business\nlife, and then take the time to achieve absolute clarity in several different\nareas. We will look at methods for building clear thinking and process, so as\nto be able to focus on ‘the thing at hand’ which is most important now, and\nnow, and now…

3. Determine your current best\nbusiness description.\nWhat words would you want your customers to use in describing your business to\nother potential customers? What words do you want the people inside and outside\nof your business to use to describe you and your business activities? For\nexample, if everyone around you described your business with the words\n\"excellence, quality, wonderful customer service, high integrity, great\npeople, best products, speedy follow-up\" and so on, would this be helpful\nto you? If so, how could you organize your business activities to assure that\nthese are the words people use when they think and talk about you sometime in\nthe future? The greater clarity you have with regard to this ideal description,\nthe easier it is for you to do the things that are necessary to make these\nwords a reality. We will examine how we\nthink about our plans, and practice building descriptions which are true and\nserve our goals, and then put them into action.

4. Choose your\nmission and a measure.\nWhat is your mission for your business? A mission is always defined in terms of\nwhat you want to accomplish with your business for your customers. A mission\nalways contains a measure of some kind that you can use to determine whether or\nnot you've completed your mission. We will define and redefine mission, then\nthink through, and practice through, the outworking behaviors which serve any\nparticular mission.
