\n\t Studies in American Government and Economics provide students with learning experiences and information about the judiciary, legislative, regulatory and economic environments in which they live, so that they understand their responsibilities and opportunities in these systems and develop skills for dealing with them effectively, in an encouraging environment. Students will gain the knowledge, confidence and practical skills to make decisions which are wise, honoring to God, and beneficial for themselves and their culture. Logic and critical thinking skills will be developed, as well as listening skills, writing skills, research skills, and discernment.\n

Students will develop a clear understanding and increasing skills in working with a broad spectrum of governmental and economic systems. A clear history of both American Government and major Economic thought will be incorporated into discussion and applied to analysis of current issues. This course will fulfill high school requirements for both American Government/Civics and Economics coursework. Students will interact in, and control, economic and governmental structures. They will hopefullyalso have opportunities to be exposed to real life governmental and economic experiences (superior court, council or congressional meetings, visits to stock or commodity exchanges or the Federal Reserve, etc).

\n\t Considerable experiential learning activities in Economics develop a real understanding of both Macro- and Micro-Economic issues and the effect of Government policy on Economic decisions. Students will practice making economic choices from various perspectives (government, business, market, etc.) within various models and applying different schools of economic thought. They will develop proficiency in thorough and critical observation, analysis and decision making. Students will also experience extensive practice in different market economies and conditions. They will be encouraged to develop a deep understanding and Biblical insight into current political and economic issues.\n

\n\t Reading and discussion related to Government and principals of Law provide instruction in the history and theory of political systems, helping students to discern the importance and effects of subtle differences in government structure, particularly as it relates to American systems of jurisprudence and legislation. They will also be given opportunities to create their own governmental and/or economic systems and experience others. Students may be inspired to learn more about intermediation, free trade, constitutional and/or international law, the effect of technology on economic cycles, religious and cultural influences on law and economy, national and/or international politics, geography, and/or history. Many students also interact directly with the great writings and speeches of others on these issues.\n

\n\t In response to student experiential learning and discussion, Mrs. Efting will give feedback, guidance and encouragement throughout the learning process, helping students understand each applicable mode of thought, and preparing them for productive involvement in current systems, holding students’ work to either High School or Honors standards. Integral to this format is a substantial meta-cognitive dialogue with Mrs Efting and other students about issues and ideas in class, and ongoing peer discussion online.\n

\n\t Students will examine theory and reality, principles and practices as they learn about both governmental and economic issues. Honors course work is available for all aspects of both American Government and Economics.\n
